Congress Begins Work On Defense Bill

AGC Advocates for Construction Industry Priorities in the National Defense Authorization Act.

On May 22, the House Committee on Armed Services advanced its version of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2025, H.R. 8070. After finishing consideration of more than 600 amendments, the bill passed out of the committee with bipartisan support. The House is expected to have a floor vote with amendments around the middle of June. AGC expects even more amendments on the floor.

The Senate Committee on Armed Services will take up its version of the defense bill in June. The Senate holds closed markups, in contrast to the more open process followed by the House of Representatives. Congress has passed the NDAA for 63 consecutive years and it is considered must-pass legislation, which is why AGC is taking seriously any attempt to add policies that are harmful to construction. AGC will continue to advocate for contractor priorities as Congress continues the debate of this bill.
