Major Federal Owner Announces Awards

The General Services Administration announces new construction awards program to recognize contractor excellence, which AGC has long sought federal owners to do.

On May 18, the General Services Administration (GSA) announced a new biennial GSA Construction Awards program, which recognizes successful GSA construction in three categories: Capital Projects, Small Projects, and Alternative Financing Projects. GSA will seek submissions beginning in July 2023, and more information will be given on the process on GSA's webpage.

Julia De Rosi, Deputy Assistant Commissioner for GSA's Office of Project Delivery, said the Construction Awards ceremony will help "...attract and retain talent in the Construction Industry...by recognizing and celebrating the people who achieve Construction Excellence."

The first Construction Awards ceremony will occur in 2024, and the Design Awards ceremony will continue in odd years. While some federal owners have design awards, very few—if any— recognize excellence in construction with contractor awards. AGC is pleased that GSA has launched a program recognizing excellence in the construction industry and urges other federal owners to establish similar construction award programs.
