The Associated General Contractors of America Political Action Committee, also known as the AGC PAC, announced today that it has endorsed Joni Ernst for the United States Senate. AGC PAC officials said they are supporting the senator’s campaign because of her strong pro-construction record.
“Joni Ernst has distinguished herself as a serious leader with a proven track record of fighting unreasonable regulations, supporting much-needed tax reforms, and pursuing common-sense health care policies,” said Stephen E. Sandherr, the association’s chief executive officer. “The senator has proven that she will stand up and fight for what is right when it comes to protecting our economy, our workers and our country.”
Sandherr noted that the association’s political action committee is endorsing the senator because of her long history of support for the construction industry while serving on both the Senate Armed Services and Environment & Public Works Committees. He also noted that she was instrumental in ensuring strong bipartisan support for the Water Resources Development Acts of 2018 and 2020. And the senator has played a key role in supporting needed new investments in military construction programs.
In addition to endorsing Senator Ernst, AGC PAC has contributed the maximum amount of $10,000 to her campaign. AGC PAC is also encouraging the association’s members in Iowa to help turn out the construction vote in support of the senator in the general election on November 3.
“Joni Ernst grew up in a family involved in the construction industry and appreciates the people who build America every day. As a senator, she has shown a strong commitment for federal investment in our nation’s highway and bridges, and we applaud her bipartisan efforts to pass infrastructure legislation, said Scott Newhard, vice president for Public Affairs of the Associated General Contractors of Iowa.
“Senator Ernst is a fighter for Iowa businesses and commercial building industry. Whether it’s her steadfast support for a federal infrastructure bill, her support of a robust recovery plan through the Paycheck Protection Program during the COVID-19 response, or her support for expanding apprenticeships and opportunities to upskill Iowans, she deserves another term in the U.S. Senate,” added Chad Kleppe, president & CEO of the Master Builders of Iowa.
AGC is the association for the commercial construction industry, with hundreds of member companies in its two Iowa chapters, representing general and specialty contractors, service providers, and suppliers. This endorsement comes from AGC PAC, the national association’s political action committee.
