From May 14-15, AGC contractors joined construction industry allies at the 2019 Transportation Construction Coalition’s (TCC) legislative fly-in event in Washington, D.C., to urge members of Congress and the White House to fix the Highway Trust Fund’s revenue shortfall and advocate for increased infrastructure investment. Speaking before participants of the event, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) noted her optimism on passing a comprehensive infrastructure package, stating that now is the time to “Build, Build, Build.” Speaker Pelosi and other key congressional leaders plan to meet with President Trump on May 22 to discuss how to pay for an infrastructure package.
Also addressing participants at the event were Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, and new Federal Highway Administrator Nicole Nason, among others. Additionally, AGC members participated in meetings with their Congressional representatives, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and White House officials charged with managing the infrastructure package. At a separate AGC briefing, Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill) ranking Republican on the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Subcommittee on Highways said infrastructure and, the FAST Act reauthorization are high on the T&I Committee’s agenda this year.
