Rep. Max Miller Tours Hinckley Lake Dam Project

Workforce development and policy solutions highlighted during project tour

Representative Max Miller (R-Ohio) toured the Hinckley Lake Dam Rehabilitation Project in Hinckley, Ohio today, accompanied by officials from Great Lakes Construction, the Ohio Contractors Association, and AGC of America.

The Cleveland Metroparks describes the project as one that “aims to strengthen flood protection, improve recreational opportunities at Hinckley Lake, raise the height of the existing earthen dam embankment that stretches across the northern portion of the lake, and rehabilitate the existing 150-foot-wide concrete spillway." The congressman visited the site to observe the progress of this critical infrastructure upgrade and to discuss policies addressing the workforce challenges facing the construction industry.

Rep. Miller heard from industry leaders the need to increase funding for Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs under the Perkins Act. These programs play a vital role in preparing high school and post-secondary students for careers in construction. However, inflation and rising operational costs are making it difficult for local schools to offer these programs at the level needed to meet industry demand.

The Hinckley Lake Dam Rehabilitation Project highlights the critical role skilled labor plays in upgrading and maintaining vital infrastructure. Congress must invest in workforce development policies so the construction industry can better address labor shortages and ensure the successful completion of important projects like this one.

AGC thanks Congressman Miller for taking time to tour the project and see the vital role construction plays in construction and economic growth.
