AGC PAC Endorses Susan Collins for U.S. Senate

The Associated General Contractors of America Political Action Committee, also known as the AGC PAC, announced today that it has endorsed Susan Collins for the United States Senate. AGC PAC officials said they are supporting the senator’s campaign because of her strong pro-construction record.

“Susan Collins has distinguished herself as a serious leader with a proven track record of fighting unreasonable regulations, supporting tax reforms, and pursuing much-needed economic relief for businesses during the pandemic,” said Stephen E. Sandherr, the association’s chief executive officer. “The senator has proven that she will stand up and fight for what is right when it comes to protecting our economy, our workers and our country.”

Sandherr noted that the association’s political action committee is endorsing the senator because of her long history of support for the construction industry while serving on both the Senate Appropriations and Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Committees. As chairwoman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, she has helped invest hundreds of billions of federal dollars in building, maintaining and improving the nation’s highways, bridges, airports, public transit systems and more.

He also noted that she was instrumental in bringing much needed economic relief to the industry during unprecedented economic uncertainty as co-author of the Paycheck Protection Program that provided $65 billion in forgivable loans to help protect construction jobs.

In addition to endorsing Senator Collins, AGC PAC has contributed the maximum amount of $10,000 to her campaign. AGC PAC is also encouraging the association’s members in Maine to help turn out the construction vote in support of the senator in the general election on November 3.

“Maine people count on our skilled workforce to build and repair vital infrastructure. As a sponsor of the Jumpstart Our Businesses By Supporting Students (JOBS) Act, Senator Collins is helping to close the skills gap by expanding Pell Grant eligibility to cover high-quality and rigorous short-term job training programs so workers can afford the training and credentials that are in high demand in today’s job market, “ said Matt Marks, CEO of AGC Maine. He added, “She has been the voice of hard-working Mainers who know the critical nature of safe roads, bridges, and housing. The Maine economy is reliant on a solid federal investment, and Senator Collins delivers.”

AGC is the association for the commercial construction industry, with more than 150 member companies in its Maine chapter, representing general and specialty contractors, service providers, and suppliers. This endorsement comes from AGC PAC, the national association’s political action committee.
