Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) in losing her primary became the third incumbent during this campaign year to fall to an intraparty challenger and similarities are present in each of the situations.

Early in the election cycle, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, through their Super PAC arm the United Democracy Project, pledged to spend upwards of $100 million to target and defeat some of Israel’s most vociferous opponents in Congress, and while their spending is high the total won’t likely reach such a lofty number.

This week brought another US House retirement, which brings the total number of open seats heading into the next election to 50. Four of the vacancies will be filled in special elections prior to November.
