TRIP Releases National Interstate Report

Finds U.S. Interstate System Faces Mounting Congestion, Deteriorating Conditions

On July 14, TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit, released a national interstate report detailing the system’s usage, condition, and benefits. The report found that the U.S Highway System faces significantly increased usage, mounting congestion, and deteriorating road and bridge conditions. It also confirms the findings of a 2019 report requested by Congress that found most of the system needs to be reconstructed and modernized, requiring more than double the current funding dedicated. TRIP’s report is yet another indicator of Congress’ need to meaningfully invest in our nation’s infrastructure. AGC continues to call on Congress to pass a robust, multi-year surface transportation reauthorization bill.
